do's

  • Apply any kind of lotion, hairspray or perfume, before you put on your Jewellery.
  • When you take off your Jewellery, wipe it with a soft cloth to cleanse it of sweat, oils etc.
  • Store your Jewellery separately in a box lined with soft fabric or individually-wrap it in tissue to prevent scratches.

DON’TS

  1. Never wear Jewellery while doing physical work.
  2. Never clean your Jewellery with household cleaning products.
  3. Never wear your Jewellery to swimming pools or hot bath tubs.

CARING FOR GOLD

Gold doesn’t get discoloured, but it gets dirty and dull by the oils present in your skin, body lotion, makeup or other cosmetic substances. An easy way to clean gold is by by putting the gold ornament in a mixture of kitchen detergent and water and letting it rest for a few minutes. Then, gently scrub the Jewellery with a toothbrush; remove the ornament from soapy water, rinse it and dry thoroughly with a soft polishing cloth.

CARING FOR STERLING SILVER

Clean your sterling silver Jewellery with a soft 100% cotton cloth or flannel cloth and gently rub off any excess makeup. As silver is a very soft metal take special care not to rub it too briskly

CARING FOR PEARLS

Being soft, pearls need special care and attention. They should never be stored in a jewelry box next to other jewelry as the box and other pieces of jewelry can damage the pearls by scratching and nicking. Instead, they should be kept in a fabric lined box or fabric pouch. Skin produces acids and sweat that can harm pearls. So if they are worn regularly, pearls should be wiped with a soft cloth after every wearing. Special care should also be taken not to clean pearls with detergents, bleaches or any abrasive chemicals.

CARING FOR GEMSTONES

Gemstones are quite hard, buy they can get damaged from careless handling and negligence. Some of these tips will keep your precious stones in pristine condition all through the years.

  • If you have a ring set with a softer gem variety or an included stone, take it off before a strong exercise.
  • Never remove rings by pulling on the stone. This may result in a loose stone in your Jewellery.
  • Gems can scratch the finish on your gold, silver or platinum as they are much harder than the metal the are set in.
  • To clean transparent crystalline gemstones, simply soak them in water with a small amount of household soap.
  • Organic gems like pearls, coral, and amber should only be wiped clean with a moist cloth. Due to their organic nature, these gems are both soft and porous.
  • As gems like pearls, coral, and amber are organic, they should only be wiped clean with a moist cloth. Due to their organic nature chemicals in hairspray, cosmetics, or perfume can damage them over time.
